Inside the home of Line Hallberg

“I treat my home like a jewellery box”

Located in the heart of Copenhagen, only a stone’s throw away from her very own childhood neighbourhood, you’ll find the home of founder, goldsmith & creative director, Line Hallberg.

In an old manor apartment in Frederiksstaden, Line Hallberg and her family have created a space with both creative and literal high ceilings, allowing plenty of room for embracing the past, present and future. When entering, the treasuring of dear memories, ancient history and excellent craftsmanship, seeps through the walls, giving a first-hand glance into the woman behind the unique LINE&JO universe.

Being both founder, goldsmith and creative director, work often finds its way home. In her study, multiple drawings, moulds and samples align creating a beautiful stilleben on the desk. Next to and in the corner are Tolomeo lamps by Artemide, alongside a Ghost armchair by Paola Navone for Gervasoni that creates space for immersion.

A yet-to-be-framed piece by Jacob Tekiela and a simplistic bookcase from Think Wood filled with magazines and trinkets collected over time sit next to and opposite the desk of the study. Both elements highlight the calmness in Line’s approach to home decor.

Bathed in light and at the centre of the apartment is the living room – a place for gatherings and comfort, which the Cocker Doodle Freja is particularly fond of. Matching the armchair from the study are two white Ghost sofas, alongside artwork by Jakob Steen and an Isamu Noguchi Akari paper lamp that beautifully contrasts the solid grey concrete table by Georg Mengel. Next to Freja is a vintage bamboo stool designed in the 60s by the Italian architect and designer Franco Albini, showcasing the high tactility in the goldsmith’s home.

The console table in the living room is designed by Line Hallberg herself and painted with a black piano finish. The big green vase is from Kähler and the lamp is by Cathrine Raben Davidsen. Behind the sofa, an antique French iron stand protrudes, formerly used to display jewellery in the LINE&JO boutiques.

Just before exiting the living room a window pane of trinkets and a vintage bamboo table with an Ingo Maurer lamp and a green ceramic fruit bowl found in Vallauris, France is displayed.

Centrepiece of the dining room is a grey concrete table by Georg Mengel delicately paired with Fratelli Levaggi chairs and a Murano glass ceiling lamp. On the wall a Roman relief dated 400 years BC. hangs, emphasising Line Hallberg’s neverending fascination with Italy. A destination very dear to her design process as well as family vacations.

Peeking from the opposing walls of the dining room is a blush pink photo showcasing the RICILY rings from the FRAGMENTS OF SICILY collection made by Line Hallberg. A collection inspired by Sicily and its baroque ornamental architecture. Another creative project of hers is the African mask, which is currently missing a lampshade, in a series of lamps Line seeks to launch in the future. The horse’s head in plaster and the conch are from a vintage store, while the Italian chairs from Fratelli Levaggi have been found at Nuvole in Copenhagen and match the industrial Toio floor lamp from Flos designed by Achille & Pier Castiglioni – and its partner the blue Fronzoni ’64 chair from Cappellini.

Complementing the one in the living room, another Cathrine Raben Davidsen lamp brings light into the corner of the dining room. Placed right next to a Finn Juhl postcard from Design Museum Denmark, African masks and other curios collected over several years.

Final and most sacred to Line are the bedroom and kitchen nook. The bedroom mirror is Italian and sourced from an antique shop many years ago with the Beetle chair designed by GamFratesi in floral textile from Dedar and a bedside lamp by Cathrine Raben Davidsen placed next to it.

In the kitchen, a small nook for family breakfast consists of a carpentry table and bench by Lars Bjørn from Deplace Furniture alongside American Cherner Chairs drawn in 1958 by Norman Cherner, and artwork by Jakob Steen.
