What does craftsmanship mean to you?
To me, craftsmanship is about celebrating the long-standing tradition of using oneโs hands and creative mind to create pieces that enhance daily life or are treasured for their beauty.
I truly admire those who can take simple tools and materials and turn them into something special. Whether itโs the beautiful jewellery crafted by Line Hallberg, a perfectly executed haircut by my husband, Cim, or a well-made pair of handmade shoes from my favourite artisan in London, these creations capture the essence of craftsmanship to me.
When did your interest in quality, and sustainability begin?
My passion for high quality has always been a part of me. From a young age, I saw my parents value quality in everything they owned and did. They invested in well-made furniture and clothing and often mixed these with their love for antique pieces. Without using the word sustainability, thatโs how they lived โ buying fewer, high-quality items that were made to last and be loved for years.
The only thing they didnโt apply this to was their car โ a bright orange Citroรซn 2CV, so worn out that we could see the road through small holes in the floor.

Do you remember the first beauty product you bought for yourself?
I still remember seeing a big poster in the window of our local perfumery featuring Pam Ewing (Victoria Principal) from Dallas, advertising a shampoo that promised to give us those big, beautiful curls she had. I was probably 10 years old, and together with my cousin โ who also has curls โ we went in, bought the shampoo, and rushed home, excited to try it out. We washed our hair and waited eagerly for the transformationโฆ but, funnily enough, our hair looked exactly the same as always. We were both so disappointed!
Looking back, I realise that was my first lesson in the illusions often sold by the beauty industry. What truly matters isnโt a magic product but sticking to good routines: using a few quality products and tools, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep.

How did The Beauty Sleeper come to be?
For years, I struggled to find rest and achieve a good nightโs sleep. Much of the time, it was because my husband travelled 200 days a year for work, leaving me home alone and constantly alert to any noises that might suggest burglars entering the house. On top of that, I was โ and still am โ very sensitive to light.
One summer, I started using one of those small, flimsy airline sleep masks that my husband brought back from his travels. I soon realised that covering my eyes with a mask made a difference. It calmed my nervous system and helped me feel safer.
However, those masks were far too small, didnโt cover my eyes properly, and were made of poor-quality materials. They slipped off easily during the night, which frustrated me. Having a background in fashion, it felt natural to pay attention to even the smallest details in design and functionality. I wanted to create masks that not only performed well but were also so beautiful youโd never want to hide them away in a bedroom drawer.
That was why I decided to create The Beauty Sleeper โ to design sleep masks that met all my needs, combined aesthetics with quality, and truly improved my sleep. I also wanted to inspire others to achieve better sleep and share my own experience: that a sleep mask is the simplest, most effective tool to help you sleep better every single night.
By creating The Beauty Sleeper, I hoped to make a difference for everyone facing the same sleep challenges that I did.

Is there a product or brand from your universe that you are particularly proud of?
Yes, absolutely. I am particularly proud of my Sleep Masks. Not because I invented the sleep mask โ theyโve existed in many shapes, forms, and qualities for years. What makes me truly proud is the craftsmanship and attention to detail in each one. The finishing touches are unlike any other sleep mask Iโve come across (and Iโve studied many along the way).
Every Sleep Mask is meticulously crafted by hand in a small sewing studio by a talented woman with an incredible eye for detail and a gift for creating something truly special. Vogue UK even described them as โThe Rolls Royce of Sleep Masks,โ which is a huge honour. But what makes me proudest of all is the feedback I receive from users who say my sleep masks have genuinely improved their sleep quality. Itโs incredibly rewarding to have taken a simple concept and elevated it to the highest level.

What inspires you and your work with storytelling?
I find inspiration for storytelling in many facets of my life, especially the people, places, and experiences that have shaped me over the years.
Nurturing yourself is one of the most important things in life โ something we often forget. Sleep, as one of the great pillars of health, plays a crucial role in that self-care. When Iโm at our little cottage in the rolling hills of Svanninge, I feel a deep sense of ease. Itโs a constant source of calm and creativity. The surrounding nature – with its ever-changing seasons and peaceful atmosphere – always sparks new ideas. The incredible art at Faaborg Museum, in my hometown, reminds me of the importance of beauty, simplicity, and heritage in everything I create.
My travels also play a big role in shaping my stories. I always feel inspired and free when I step away from my office desk. The years I spent living in London gave me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, design, and the art of blending the old with the new. I love England – the people, the humour – and nothing makes me happier than receiving my monthly issue of House & Garden. Perhaps that says something about my age, but Iโm perfectly fine with that!
Ultimately, I hope my stories reflect my love for my family, my dogs, nature, art, travel, and heritage – and inspire others to find their own golden moments in what they value as quality, beauty, and the simple joys of life.

When did you first encounter Line Hallberg and her craftsmanship?
I have admired Line Hallbergโs work for many years and still remember the opening of the very first LINE&JO shop in Gothersgade. Fifteen years ago, for Christmas, I was fortunate enough to receive the most beautiful diamond ring from LINE&JO. Since that Christmas Eve, I have worn it every single day. It has become a part of me, and even now, people still ask me where itโs from.
What makes this piece so special is its timelessness – it doesnโt belong to a particular era. Itโs simply a classic that I will treasure and wear for life. I also know whose finger it will rest on when Iโm no longer here. Knowing that Lineโs design will endure and be loved for generations to come is such a heartwarming thought.
